Q. Can anyone help me please? I have a 15 year old Labrador who is partially deaf and suffers from arthritis. About six weeks ago, a large lump developed on her front left knee. It isn't growing in size however she is obviously having trouble walking. She is limping quite badly and doesn't seem to be able to bare weight on it. Because of her age I do not want her to have to undergo surgery but I don't want her to be in pain either. I initially thought that she may be suffering from Carpal Hyperextension so began the process of having her a splint made. However, after further research tonight, I now believe she could be suffering from a degenerative front ligament rupture. Unfortunately, money is quite tight at the moment and I am unable to afford a vet. She is taking Dog Gone Pain for her arthritis which has appeared to have helped her (Apart from the front leg).

Hi Christie,

It is going to be hard to help your old girl without someone taking a look. I know money is tight but a qualified veterinarian will always help you out-that is what we do-we try and talk to the client and assess initial cost which might be less than $100 including therapy depending on the problem.
We work within clients budgets and would never suggest surgery, further diagnostics or push you in to anything you don’t want to do as she is obviously a beloved old girl, but sometimes that clouds judgement as, as an owner, we don’t want to hear bad news.
Lumps and bumps in an elderly dog are an everyday occurrence so when they become suddenly lame we worry about infections, sudden worsening of osteoarthritis and of course what we all fear, cancers, are still on the list. Sometimes it is just good to get an opinion and human pain medications can be scripted out for hardship cases which are often very cheap.

We would be happy to talk to you regarding your dog.

Kind regards,
Megan
