Q. My dog has a curly tail but suddenly it has uncurled and is now hanging down from the middle.
What a sad sight that must be!
By the sounds of it your dog may have sprained or even broken its tail.
With a sprain you will find pain and swelling around the top of the tail base (near the bottom end) but they can still wag it a little. This can happen if they have been swimming (swimmer’s tail) or if they injure it in some way.
More serious would be a tail pull injury where the nerves are damaged and paralysis can occur or a fracture and I would highly recommend you are seen by a vet to sort out which kind of injury your dog has sustained.
